Kids Camp explores BIONICS and places 5th in the Klaus Tschira Foundation competition.

What do parachutes and flying squirrels have in common? Which plants serve as our models for tying knots? Preschoolers at Kids Camp Königstein investigated these and other questions as they explored the connections between biology and technology through hands-on experiments. This engagement with bionics took place as part of the Klaus Tschira Foundation’s science experience days “Explore Science.” The children actively discovered the interplay between biology/nature and technology and found many examples in their surroundings. They researched, documented, and built their own models to illustrate, for example, the flight capabilities of animals and the flight of plant seeds. The project was complemented by themed games and storytelling theater. To understand the flight properties of helicopters and airplanes, they crafted parachutes, paper airplanes, and helicopter rotors and explored the flight characteristics of maple seeds, dandelion seeds, and flying squirrels. Afterwards, the children discussed what they had learned. For their vivid documentation and for the self-developed and built models, the Kids Camp preschoolers were awarded 5th place in the competition. This came with prize money and a researcher’s kit, which invites them to dive further into the world of science. Our little researchers are very proud of their success and are eagerly looking forward to more fascinating experiments and exciting discoveries!

A week ago, our school Kids Camp hosted its Open house! Not only is this major event a great way for interested parents to be introduced to our concept, a bilingual education program that provides the children with a unique learning environment, but it is also a fantastic experience for the children at our school to show you (and their parents!) what they’ve learnt and the projects they’ve proudly worked on in the last months.
